Advice from Ameer Al-Mu’mineen

‘Umar said , ” Take account of your own selves (your deeds), before you will be taken to account. Weigh yourselves before you will be weighed. Indeed, if you hold yourselves accountable today, the accountability tomorrow will be easier upon you. And adorn yourselves for the greater display(day of judgment)

That Day you shall be brought to Judgement, not a secret of you will be hidden. (Al-Haqqah 69:18)

Sahaba

If we were to list the attitudes with which they supported the deen and the righteous deeds by means of which they deserved that high status, we would fill volumes. Their whole lives were spent for the sake of Allaah and what book is big enough to contain the lives of hundreds of the Sahaabah who filled the world with goodness and righteousness? Even if there was nothing narrated from Allaah or His Messenger about them, the things that they did such as migrating (hijrah), engaging in jihad, supporting (the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and Islam), expending their lives and their wealth, killing their fathers and sons (in jihad), sincerely following the deen, believing strongly and with certainty, is definitive proof of their good character and sincerity, and shows that they are superior to all those sincere people of good character who come after them, for all time. This is the view of all the scholars, and of the fuqaha’ whose opinion counts. End quote.

I give to some people

‘Amr bin Taghlib said, “Some property was given to the Prophet and he gave it to some people and withheld it from some others. Then he came to know that they (the latter) were dissatisfied. So the Prophet said, ‘I give to one man and leave (do not give) another, and the one to whom I do not give is dearer to me than the one to whom I give. I give to some people because of the impatience and discontent present in their hearts, and leave other people because of the content and goodness Allah has bestowed on them, and one of them is ‘Amr bin Taghlib.” ‘Amr bin Taghlib said, “The sentence which Allah’s Apostle said in my favor is dearer to me than the possession of nice red camels.” (Bukhari)
